Scholarships for Veterans and Family Members

  • Scholarships | AMVETS National Site
    • AMVETS is proud to offer scholarships/grants to our nation’s Veterans, Active Duty, Guard and Reserves; their Spouses as well as their Children and Grandchildren.
  • Scholarships | The American Legion
    • The American Legion offers a variety of college and vocational or trade school scholarships that support academic achievement, leadership, and military-connected families. These programs help eligible students nationwide to pursue higher education and achieve their goals.
    • From the Samsung American Legion Scholarship for Boys State and Girls State participants to the needs-based Legacy Scholarship for children of post-9/11 fallen service members or disabled veterans, The American Legion invests in future leaders. Other awards include scholarships for Legion Baseball players, National Oratorical Contest finalists, Eagle Scouts, Junior Shooting Sports champions and ANAVICUS scholars.
    • Each program reflects The American Legion’s commitment to youth, education, and citizenship. Explore the links below for eligibility requirements, deadlines and application details.
  • MOAA – Ed Assist Program
    • Students apply for the Education Assistance Program through a single, streamlined application process. The application includes questions about the student’s academic achievements, extracurricular activities, military affiliation, and financial background. Additionally, applicants are invited to share their post-graduation plans and college aspirations through an essay question.
    • Unlike traditional programs where students apply for specific funding types, our approach allows us to match each student with the most suitable funding opportunities based on their eligibility. This way, students won’t miss out on any funding opportunities they’re qualified for.
    •  To participate in the Education Assistance Program, students must submit an application during the November 1 – March 1 window. Our program has two applications: New Student Applications and Renewing Student Applications. Once a student is accepted into the program and receives funding, they have the opportunity to reapply for funding each year of their undergraduate studies. Students who have previously applied for the Education Assistance Program AND have received program funds are considered renewing students.
  • DAV Scholarships for Veterans and Volunteers
    • Each year, DAV honors student volunteers who demonstrate outstanding dedication and service to America’s veterans. To recognize that dedication and to promote volunteerism, DAV offers $140,000 in scholarships annually to be used toward any accredited institution of higher learning, including universities, colleges, community colleges and vocational schools.
  • Student Veteran Support – VFW
    • VFW’s “Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship” provides service members and veterans with the financial assistance they need to complete their educational goals without incurring excessive student loan debt. It’s just another way for us to say “thank you” to those who fought for our freedoms.
  • Scholarships – Student Veterans of America®
    • These are distributed to top student veterans in a manner that doesn’t interfere with the G.I. Bill or other financial aid and total over $100,000 annually.
